Music Ministry

Music is an important element of worship at FPCC—congregational singing is an important element of praise and is one of the ways that each person present participates in worship----as opposed to an audience seeking to be entertained.  The Music Ministry has been under the direction of Dr. Areatha Ketch since 2019.

Choral music is presented by a small ensemble of staff singers as well as the Choir, which is composed of volunteers and staff singers. On special occasions a Festival Choir –including singers from the community—is formed.

Both the piano and organ are used in worship---in 2020 the pipe organ was enlarged to better serve the needs of the congregation and improve capabilities in rendering the vast repertoire written for the organ. In keeping with the historic sanctuary—no digital stops were incorporated in the expansion---all additions are windblown pipes.

Our Piano is a baby grand given by Gertrude Peagler Barrett in memory of her mother.

Special music programs and “Concerts on the Hill” are presented at various times of the church year featuring both guest musicians and FPCC staff.
